  • Main research activities:

  • As a well-established leader in material science and engineering, he has significantly contributed to scientific community and industry-oriented development. He is among ASTAR’s most prolific researchers, with ~190 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals (e.g. Advanced Materials, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Protocols). So far, his creative and innovative research received ~16,000 citations with h-index of 57. As a consequence, his achievements are widely recognized and highlighted in professional newspapers/magazines for more than 300 times (e.g. Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Chemistry, Science, Science News, BBC News, New York Times, Strait Times, Scientific American, New England, Chemical and Engineering News). His name often appears in the list of invited and keynote speakers of international conferences (~100 times). The achievements have secured ~40 grants from both government and industrial partners. During proceeding these projects, he has trained ~30 young staff and ~20 postgraduates. Many of them are now professors worldwide (e.g. China, Singapore and Poland) or play senior management roles in multinational companies. Meanwhile, he has filed 36 inventions with more than one hundred national entries. In addition to licensing his inventions to a number of companies, Crystalplex Corp and others have been spun off based on his inventions. Meanwhile, he has been selected/admitted to be a fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry recently.
